Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish. Psalm 146: 3-4
“He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12: 25
“While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” John 12: 36a
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God, Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; The LORD raises those who are bowed down; The LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down. Psalm 147: 5-9
I have been interrupted so many times this morning I don’t remember exactly what I wanted to say about the above verses. (The curse of having Attention Deficit Disorder.)
I do know that I liked these verses and thought they fit together very well. I also remember thinking I can be very prideful sometimes. I don’t put my trust in other people, but I put my trust in myself and my own wisdom (which is never as good as God’s, even on His worst day – if He has a worst day – which I doubt).
So, my prayer this morning is this:
Lord, help me to put my complete trust and faith in You and no one nor nothing else. Especially myself. That only leads to destruction! Let me not love this world and my own knowledge more than I love You and Yours, for they are infinitely better than mine.
Let me never be ashamed of my faith in You nor worry about what the doubters will say.
Let me always remember the love, grace, and mercy You have for us. And let me always praise You and bless You with all that I have, because You are the God of the universe. You are the God who created heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them!
Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Psalm 146: 1-2
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
